Microplastics have summitted Mt Everest and dived deep in to our oceans. We must control the use of single use plastic as our veins and tissues are getting poisened by plastics.
Mountaineering ropes are made from synthetic polymers, which are a form of plastic. Specifically:
Nylon (polyamide) is a type of plastic polymer.
Polyester is also a plastic polymer.
Even aramid fibers like Kevlar are synthetic plastics designed for high strength and durability.
So while climbers call them “ropes,” these materials are, at their core, specialized plastic fibers engineered for extreme conditions.

Mountaineering tents and gear are typically made from plastic-based materials like nylon and polyester, which offer durability and weather resistance. These synthetics, while essential for harsh conditions, also contribute to micro-plastic pollution when they shed fibers or break down. Sustainable use and proper disposal are key to reducing their environmental impact.

Plastic pollution in rivers is a major environmental challenge. Rivers act as highways for plastic waste, transporting it from urban centers to oceans. In Nepal and globally, studies have shown alarming levels of plastic debris—ranging from large items like bottles and bags to tiny microplastics.
According to the World Bank, approximately 20,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste leak into Nepal’s environment each year, much of which ends up in rivers.

This World Environment Day 2025, under the powerful theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” we stand together with a shared mission to protect our planet from one of its most insidious threats. Plastic pollution affects every corner of our world, from the highest peaks to the deepest seas, harming ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. But this is a challenge we can overcome—if we choose to act. By refusing single-use plastics, championing sustainable alternatives, and demanding bold policies, we can break free from the plastic trap. Let’s rise to the occasion, not just as individuals but as a united global community, determined to leave a cleaner, healthier Earth for generations to come. Join the movement and be part of the solution to #BeatPlasticPollution.
