Recent Update from Dhaulagiri: Makalu Lakpa’s Team Faces Setback Due to Weather
Dhaulagiri, Nepal – May 8, 2025
The climbing team led by renowned mountaineer Makalu Lakpa has encountered a setback on Dhaulagiri at an altitude of approximately 7,250 meters.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions and the challenging distance from Camp 2 (C2) to Camp 3 (C3), the team could not proceed as planned today. They are now staying overnight at C3, and their summit push has been postponed to May 10.
Makalu Lakpa’s Update from Camp 2
Yesterday, Makalu Lakpa shared an update on Instagram, expressing his enthusiasm:
“Right now, we are here at Dhaulagiri Camp 2. Today we reached C2 directly from Base Camp. I am very excited to lead the team, and this time we have a very strong team. I am also leading the fixing team.”

Climbing Strategy and Team Division
The expedition has been divided into two groups:
Team A (International and Fixing Team): Currently at C2 with a summit plan for May 9.
Team B (Russian Team): Presently at C1 with a summit plan for May 10.
Makalu Lakpa’s team has already fixed the rope up to 8,000 meters
They remain optimistic about the summit attempt on the revised date.
