Temba Tsheri Sherpa: Sixteen Steps to the Summit

Temba Tsheri Sherpa, born May 9, 1985 from Rolwaling Valley, Dolkha, Nepal.

His parents worked in the mountains as porters, carrying heavy loads for other climbers. Even though Temba heard scary stories about the dangers in the mountains, he always felt drawn to them.
When Temba was just a teenager, he decided to try something amazing – to climb Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world! His first try in 2000 didn’t go well. It was so cold that he got frostbite and lost five of his fingers. But Temba didn’t give up.

The very next year, on May 23, 2001, Temba tried again. This time, he climbed from the north side of the mountain in Tibet. And guess what? He made it all the way to the top. Temba was only 16 years old, making him the youngest person ever to climb Mount Everest at that time. His name even got into the Guinness World Records.

In an interview with VMAG, he shared that he is grateful for the people who came before him. He said that the older generation of mountain climbers had it even harder, and their struggles made things a bit easier for his generation.

After his big climb, Temba didn’t stop there, he started his own company called Sherpa Khangri Outdoor. Temba loves showing people the beauty of his country and its mountains.
Temba’s journey wasn’t easy. He had to work hard and face many challenges. But he believes that having a tough childhood taught him how to survive and made him stronger.

Now, Temba wants to inspire others. He tells everyone to find their own “Everest” – their big dream or goal – and to work hard to reach it, just like he did. He knows that the path to success can be difficult, but he thinks it’s worth it.

Today, Temba is known as the cool guy from Rolwaling Valley who reached the top of the world when he was just a kid. His story teaches us that with determination and courage, we can overcome big challenges and achieve great things.
