Sherpa Who Climbed with Bear Grylls and Saved His Life

Bear Grylls, the famous British adventurer and television personality, has climbed Mount Everest with the help of several Sherpas.

When Bear Grylls climbed Mount Everest in 1998 at the age of 23, he became one of the youngest people to have climbed the mountain. It was a huge achievement but he faced many hurdles along the way.

At one stage, a huge section of ice cracked and gave way. Bear’s legs buckled and he fell down into a crevasse, being smashed by the falling ice. He lost consciousness for a few minutes.
He was dangling on a thin rope and was eventually pulled out by the team’s two Sherpas, Pasang Dawa Sherpa,and Nima, who luckily were nearby.

Bear Grylls, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) on May 26, 2023, He expressed deep gratitude to the Nepalese Sherpas, who played a crucial role in the expedition. Grylls specifically mentioned how the Sherpas, including Pasang Dawa Sherpa, helped supply the camps with essential gear like ropes and oxygen, which were vital for their successful ascent to the summit.

On December 3 , 2023, Bear Grylls met Pasang Dawa Sherpa, the man who saved his and his best friend’s lives on Mount Everest 25 years ago.

Bear writes, ‘I hadn’t seen this beautiful man for 25 years. The man who saved my best friend’s life and who eventually stood beside me on the summit of Everest, we were both barely 23 years old. That moment changed both our lives forever.’
