Purushottam Nepali (Sanu), a Senior Sub Inspector of Nepal Police grew up in Khumbu Pasang Rural Municipality Lukla, dreaming of one day standing atop the world’s highest peak. As a child, he would scramble up big rocks, imagining they were the slopes of Mount Everest. His heart longed for the day he could touch the sky.
But life had other plans for Purushottam. He joined the Nepal Police, setting aside his mountain dreams to serve and protect. For years, he wore his uniform with pride, his childhood aspirations tucked away but never forgotten.
Then, in 2023, a special opportunity arose. The Nepal Police were forming an expedition team to climb Everest, and Purushottam’s dormant dream stirred to life. This climb would be more than just a personal achievement – it would honor INTERPOL’s 100th anniversary and showcase Nepal’s commitment to both safety and tourism.
On May 17, 2023, Purushottam’s lifelong dream became reality. Step by careful step, he made his way up the icy slopes of Everest. With each breath of thin air, he drew closer to his goal. Finally, he reached the summit, becoming the first Nepali police officer to stand on top of the world and First Nepali Police honour by INTERPOL.
As Purushottam looked out over the breathtaking view, he thought of his younger self climbing rocks in Lukla. He thought of his fellow officers and the message this climb would send. By reaching the peak, he showed the world that Everest was safe, that Nepal welcomed visitors, and that police work and tourism could go hand in hand.
Purushottam’s journey from a dreaming boy to a police officer atop Everest proved that with perseverance and purpose, even the highest mountains can be climbed.
