He further shared that he and his team have been working day and night over the past two years to bring this extraordinary vision to life.

“This project will be historic,” Baniya remarked, visibly emotional. “It is not just a film, it is a tribute to human power and the spirit of Nepal.”

What is “Zero to 8848”?

As per the official information shared on the project’s website, “Zero to 8848” documents an epic journey from sea level (0 meters) to the summit of Mount Everest (8,848 meters).

The project involves traversing diverse terrains, battling extreme altitudes, and undertaking a physically and emotionally challenging expedition all while capturing the stories, landscapes, and the human experience at every step.

Unlike traditional Everest expeditions that begin from Lukla or Everest Base Camp, this route starts at the very edge of sea level a symbolic and literal elevation in every sense.

The Dream Team Behind the Journey

The film brings together a lineup of world-renowned climbers and explorers, including:

Conrad Anker Legendary American alpinist known for summiting Everest multiple times and for his work in high-altitude exploration.

Tendi Sherpa A veteran mountaineer who has summited Everest an incredible 17 times.

Puskar Shah Nepali world cyclist and explorer, who has cycled across the globe carrying the message of peace.

Ang Pasang Sherpa – An experienced mountain guide representing the strength and skills of Nepal’s mountaineering community.

A Cinematic Journey Across Nepal

The film is expected to be screened in various cities across Nepal, making it accessible to audiences nationwide. Through stunning visuals, compelling narratives, and never-before-seen perspectives, “Zero to 8848” promises to be both a cinematic masterpiece and a tribute to Nepal’s natural and cultural richness.

The film not only highlights the physical challenges of ascending the world’s tallest mountain from sea level but also reflects on the broader human quest for purpose, perseverance, and connection with nature.

Discovering the World’s “9th Wonder”

The journey from sea level to Everest’s summit is envisioned by Baniya and his team as a symbolic search for the “9th wonder of the world.” This phrase captures the spiritual and emotional magnitude of the trek blending adventure, science, culture, and the sheer power of the human spirit.

“This isn’t just about altitude,” Baniya said. “It’s about attitude — the idea that we as Nepalis can dare to dream big and accomplish something that will inspire the world.”
