Mingma D Sherpa Summits Annapurna
April 7, 2025 – Mingma D Sherpa, a renowned mountaineer, has successfully summited Annapurna I (8,091m), the world’s deadliest 8,000-meter peak, marking his first expedition to the treacherous summit under the guidance of 8kexpeditions.

In his own words, Sherpa described the climb as “a battle not just against the altitude and cold, but against the silent danger that always waits on this mountain.”
The expedition also witnessed a remarkable achievement by Liliya Lan, who, at the age of 65, became the oldest climber to reach the summit of Annapurna I. Lan, a seasoned mountaineer who has previously summited Lhotse, Makalu, and Dhaulagiri, reached the top with Sherpa by her side.

Sherpa expressed his admiration, stating, “Her courage and endurance are beyond inspiring.”
While the summit was a momentous achievement for both climbers, it was soon overshadowed by heartbreaking news.
After safely descending from the peak, Sherpa and his team received tragic news of an avalanche that struck between Camp 2 and Camp 3, claiming the lives of two Sherpa climbers from Seven Summit Treks, Rima Sherpa and Nima Tashi Sherpa.
The news of their disappearance and presumed death in the avalanche left Sherpa and his team devastated.
Reflecting on the bittersweet experience, Sherpa said, “The mountain gave us a summit, but it also reminded us of the brutal cost that can come with it. No summit is worth more than a life.”
Despite the overwhelming emotions, Sherpa has announced his decision to leave Annapurna, choosing to honor the fallen climbers and the dangers inherent in such expeditions.
The climb, which began as a triumphant journey, now stands as a somber reminder of the risks faced by those who dare to conquer the world’s highest peaks.
Sherpa’s words resonate deeply with the climbing community, as they reflect not only the triumphs but also the sacrifices that come with the pursuit of greatness in the world’s most dangerous mountains.
