Priyanka Mangesh Mohite New Generation of Indian Mountaineers

Priyanka Mangesh Mohite, born in Satara, Maharashtra, has become a shining star in Indian mountaineering. Her journey from local hills to the world’s highest peaks is a tale of determination and passion.

Growing up, Mohite would often go hiking and trekking in the nearby Sahyadri mountain ranges, sparking her interest in mountaineering. Her early experiences in the outdoors instilled in her a love for challenging herself and pushing her physical limits.

Despite pursuing a scientific career with an MSc in Biotechnology, Mohite never gave up on her mountaineering dreams. She believes that balancing science and sports is possible with good time management. For her, climbing is a form of peaceful meditation.

Mohite’s biggest achievement came in 2021 when she became the first Indian woman to climb Mount Annapurna, the world’s 10th highest peak. This historic climb was just one of her many successes. She has also climbed other famous mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.
